DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional race driver. She is the most successful American open-wheel racing female. Her victory in Indy Japan 300 in 2008 is her first triumph. In 1998, she left high school and moved to England to pursue her career. Patrick raced in Formula Vauxhall, Formula Ford and Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001. In 2002, she took part in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races along with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick was an official Toyota Atlantic Series racer for the following two seasons. Her best performance was third in the championship standings during the 2004 season, where she became the first woman to earn a pole position in the series.She first competed in the IndyCar Series with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2005. She took three poles, equalling Tomas Scheckter's record for poles in her rookie season. She was awarded the Rookie of the Year in both the 2005 Indianapolis 500 and the 2005 IndyCar Series. She saw improvement in the subsequent two seasons, racing with Rahal Letterman Racing 2006, and later Andretti Green Racing 2007. Patrick came in sixth place in the drivers' standings following her victory in Japan. She then improved to finish fifth in drivers' standings following the season. It was her highest performance in the Indianapolis 500 and a career-high for Patrick. Patrick's overall performances slowed down during 2010but she was able to finish second at the oval tracks. Then she quit IndyCar in 2011 to concentrate on stock car racing full-time.
